Heart and the Home, featuring Levi Hawkins

A creative exploration of the relationship between identity and place of origin.
Inspired by Katy Grannan’s “The Westerns” photo set.

Using the iconic W.S. Kelly Service Station in the abandoned town of Cogar, Oklahoma as a backdrop, Levi and I sought to contrast the ideas of personal identity and place of origin to show the complicated relationships that people can have with their homes, and how as time goes on and we grow as people, places that previously felt like home now feel foreign and unsafe.
